About the gallery and founder
Yelena Lezhen founded Yelena Lezhen Art, a New Jersey-based gallery In 2015. She established the gallery to participate independently in art fairs, present her work, and build relationships with collectors. Her broader vision was to create a platform that would also provide exhibition opportunities for other artists.
Today, Yelena Lezhen Art presents contemporary paintings, works on paper, sculpture, and limited-edition tapestries. Its exhibition activities have expanded beyond Lezhen’s own work to include artists such as Emil Silberman and Sassoon Kosian, whose works have been presented by the gallery at recent editions of the Affordable Art Fair in New York.
Yelena Lezhen — Founder and Artist
Yelena Lezhen is a Ukrainian-born American contemporary artist working in acrylic, oil, and ink on canvas and paper. She maintains her studio in Watchung, New Jersey, where she has developed a distinctive visual language combining symbolic figuration, surreal imagery, and intuitive expression.
Her work explores the relationships between humanity and nature, the complexity of human emotions, and the philosophical dimensions of time and existence. Through intricate compositions of overlapping faces, figures, animals, and abstract forms, Lezhen creates imaginative visual narratives that invite viewers to discover hidden connections and meanings. Her spontaneous, emotion-driven creative process produces richly layered works in which recognizable imagery emerges through expressive lines, colors, and textures.Lezhen has exhibited internationally in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as in numerous exhibitions and major art fairs in New York and Miami, including presentations during Miami Art Basel Week. Her works are held in private collections throughout the United States and internationally.
Through her artistic practice and the gallery’s exhibitions, Lezhen pursues a vision of art as a means of connecting people, encouraging imagination, and exploring the shared human experience.
Artistic Vision
Yelena Lezhen Art presents art that brings imagination into conversation with the human experience. Its artistic vision centers on the connections between humanity and nature, memory and emotion, and the visible world and the mysteries beneath its surface.
Founded on the creative practice of Ukrainian-born American artist Yelena Lezhen, the gallery approaches art as a space for contemplation and discovery. Symbolic figures, dreamlike narratives, and layered forms invite viewers to look closely, draw on their own experiences, and find personal meaning in each work.
The gallery brings paintings, works on paper, tapestries, and sculpture into dialogue, exploring how ideas take shape across different materials. Color, texture, and form offer distinct ways to reflect on identity, relationships, time, and our place within the natural world. The movement from painted imagery to woven tapestry extends this exploration, giving familiar compositions a new material presence.
Through its exhibitions and art fair presentations, Yelena Lezhen Art seeks to create encounters that encourage curiosity, emotional connection, and reflection. At the heart of its vision is a belief in art’s ability to connect individual experience with a shared sense of humanity.
